Our brand new boat after 9 weeks use. Up on blocks because we can't use it. A total electrical failure in the dark in a busy shipping area whilst close crossing in front of a bulk carrier left hubby and son stranded until the one of the two twin engines started again, but without radio, navigation or lights. A very frightening situation that left us all very shaken and shocked. We felt we needed a full structural survey by an expert at that point.
Here's some of the things he noted.
Rusting bushes on the twin engines due to them being mild steel instead of stainless steel.
Just a few of the sharp (wood) screw points protruding into the cuddy area on which I got cut.
Would post more but today Mum in Law and Step Dad in Law (if that's the correct title) go home today and I'm off to the airport to drop them off.
But the full and final report from our surveyor who happens to be an MCA Appointed Small Crafts Examiner amongst other and many qualifications has been sent to the South West Office of Fair Trading and it is up to them what they do with the info supplied.
The overall conclusion is summed up with the surveyor's General Opinion
9.6. General Opinion
9.6.1. The view was formed the craft had been built with undue lack of care and
attention, the batteries and electrics are unsafe, the steering is faulty and
with incorrect fittings, the protruding screw heads are dangerous. Some
fittings were of unknown thread and important parts of the steering were
of mild steel, not inox.
9.6.2. I could only describe the finish to the craft as being of an amateur nature
and not fit for purpose.
